At declaration time, K L Chui was declared as the rider of both MAINLAND MASTER and SUPER RED. It was established that K L Chui had a firm commitment to ride SUPER RED. As such, the Stewards permitted Y T Cheng to be substituted as the rider of MAINLAND MASTER. For this declaration error, K L Chui was fined $2,000. NEWSWIRE TOO and KING CREOLE were slow into stride. At the 850 Metres, SO NICE and NEWSWIRE TOO, which were ridden along to improve their positions, were crowded for room inside MAINLAND MASTER which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. No action was taken. After this, MAINLAND MASTER continued to hang in. In the early stages, MR FLOODLIGHT was allowed to drift back and then shifted across behind runners. Also in the early stages, HAPPY SUNDAY was ridden along to go forward, then after the 800 Metres when racing wide was steadied in an attempt to obtain cover. However, HAPPY SUNDAY was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the turn at the 600 Metres, GANBARIA was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MAINLAND MASTER which was continuing to hang in. Also approaching the turn at the 600 Metres, SUPER RED was tightened for room inside MASTER YING which got its head on the side and hung in away from KING'S CHOICE. C W Wong (PERFECT ATHLETE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that commencing to make the turn at the 600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of KING'S CHOICE, causing that horse to be steadied and shift in which in turn caused crowding on its inside to MASTER YING which had been hanging in and then shifted in further, causing SUPER RED to be carried in across the rightful running of GANBARIA which as a result was checked. In this incident, MASTER YING and SUPER RED were severely hampered and NEWSWIRE TOO and SO NICE which were following were steadied in consequence. C W Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 11 December 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday 3 December 2008. Making the turn at the 500 Metres, SO NICE hung out. On straightening, SUPER RED and MASTER YING bumped. After the 250 Metres, KING CREOLE, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was checked when having difficulty obtaining clear running between GANBARIA and MASTER YING. At the 200 Metres, GANBARIA was steadied when crowded for room between SO NICE and KING CREOLE which shifted out slightly when improving into clear running. At the 100 Metres, NEWSWIRE TOO was steadied when disappointed for running between MAINLAND MASTER and MR FLOODLIGHT. GANBARIA and HAPPY SUNDAY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GANBARIA and HAPPY SUNDAY after the race did not show any significant findings. MUTUAL GAIN and MR FLOODLIGHT were sent for sampling.

Race: 2 (164)GRAYBURN HANDICAP(Sec2)Class 41200 m
FLORAL IMAGE began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. GALLANT MASTER began awkwardly and lost ground. After entering the Back Straight, WINNING FIRST proved difficult to settle and near the 800 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ASALI VICTORY. Shortly after the 800 Metres, EXPLODING was checked away from the heels of WINNING FIRST. DIVINE TOUCH and SIR LAGO, which were following, were steadied in consequence. Over the final 150 Metres, ASALI VICTORY hung in. Throughout the race, KINGSTON MARBLE travelled wide and without cover. B Prebble (COOL CAT) reported at no stage of the race did his mount stride out as he thought it should and because of this performed poorly. COOL CAT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, COOL CAT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. Before being allowed to race again, COOL CAT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. B Doyle (MAGIC TURBO) explained his mount does not possess natural early speed. He said today the intention was to have the horse ridden slightly forward of midfield if possible and because of this he was required to ride his mount along vigorously in the early stages. He said entering the Back Straight he was in a three wide position with cover and near the 900 Metres was momentarily inconvenienced outside the heels of EXPLODING which shifted to a three wide position. He said after this MAGIC TURBO travelled fairly in a midfield position three wide but with cover. He said in the Straight MAGIC TURBO was disappointing in the manner in which it closed the race off. MAGIC TURBO was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of MAGIC TURBO after the race did not show any significant findings. K-JACK and DIVINE TOUCH were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (165)GRAYBURN HANDICAP(Sec1)Class 41200 m
FEEL-SO-GOOD, which was standing with its head turned to the left, was slow to begin. TELECOM GOGO began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, BAYVIEW GREYSLEW got its head up. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, SPLENDID SAILS was tightened for room inside MAGI JOY which got its head on the side and shifted in away from MY PRIDE. After entering the Back Straight, MAGI JOY was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the turn at the 600 Metres, HAPPY ELITE was steadied away from the heels of MAGI JOY. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SPLENDID SAILS became unbalanced after being bumped by MY GOAL. MEGABUCKS hung out making the Home Turn. Prior to straightening, MY PRIDE was checked when crowded for room between MAGI JOY which shifted in slightly and MY GOAL which was racing with its head on the side and shifting out away from GALACTIC TACTIC which shifted out at this time. Although the check to MY PRIDE was significant, the Stewards could not apportion blame to one rider and therefore no action was taken. Near the 200 Metres, TELECOM GOGO, which was commencing to close the race off, got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. As a consequence, BAYVIEW GREYSLEW was carried wider. Passing the 200 Metres, MY GOAL had some difficulty obtaining clear running when racing tight inside MAGI JOY. Approaching and passing the 200 Metres, RACING SPIRIT had some difficulty obtaining clear running. When questioned regarding the poor performance of SPLENDID SAILS, K L Chui explained in the early stages his mount did not show natural speed and therefore he was required to make use of his mount to travel in front of midfield as instructed. He said SPLENDID SAILS travelled keenly at different stages of the race and near the 600 Metres became unbalanced. He said in the Straight SPLENDID SAILS failed to finish the race off and was disappointing. SPLENDID SAILS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPLENDID SAILS after the race did not show any significant findings. MEGABUCKS, INVESTAR and GALACTIC TACTIC were sent for sampling.

Race: 4 (166)SUTHERLAND HANDICAPClass 51800 m
After arriving at the Happy Valley holding stables, it was noted SERIOUS PLAY had a blood stain on its right nostril. SERIOUS PLAY was examined by the Veterinary Officer including an endoscopic examination. He said there was no blood present in the right nasal passage and in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. Whilst in the holding stalls, LIGHTNING MOUNT had its right hind plate refitted. LIGHTNING MOUNT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. TRAVEL LEADER, which became fractious as the start was effected, was slow to begin. KINGSTON TEMPLE was slow into stride. Shortly after the start, FISHKING EXCELLENT and ALL FOR ONE were tightened for room between HEADINGLEY and LIGHTNING MOUNT. Prior to straightening, DENDRANTHEMA LOVE was checked when crowded for room between HAPPY HEROES and LIGHTNING MOUNT which was carried out slightly by OCTAGONAL CANYON which when improving towards the run on the outside of DECAGONAL was carried out by that horse which shifted out to avoid the heels of HEADINGLEY which commenced to give ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. On straightening, LIGHTNING MOUNT was steadied away from the heels of OCTAGONAL CANYON which shifted out into clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres, DECAGONAL got its head on the side and hung in behind KINGSTON TEMPLE. For some distance after the 200 Metres, DECAGONAL continued to hang in and was reluctant to shift out from behind KINGSTON TEMPLE into clear running. For the major part of the race, ALL FOR ONE travelled wide and without cover. D Beadman (HEADINGLEY) said the intention had been to take a position with cover behind the lead if possible. He said HEADINGLEY was having its first start over 1800 Metres tonight and after beginning well he allowed his mount to go forward and cross to the fence in the lead. He said approaching the winning post on the first occasion HEADINGLEY commenced to over-race badly and hang out. He said when no other runner went forward to cross him, he was left racing in the lead and HEADINGLEY did not relax. He said near the 1100 Metres HEADINGLEY changed legs and as a consequence was on the wrong leg making the turn at the 1000 Metres and was not comfortable in its action. He said HEADINGLEY travelled only fairly along the Back Straight and when FISHKING EXCELLENT improved on his outside near the 700 Metres again wanted to hang out. He said making the turn at the 600 Metres HEADINGLEY made a significant breathing noise which indicated to him that the horse might have been holding its breath. He said shortly after this HEADINGLEY felt unbalanced in its action. He said after this he did not ride HEADINGLEY out because of the manner in which the horse was travelling. He said on pulling up HEADINGLEY was heaving noticeably. Mr A T Millard, trainer of HEADINGLEY, said the horse had worked well in the lead up to this race and was expected to perform accordingly. He said he was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of HEADINGLEY, however, he did say following the race D Beadman had reported to him that the horse was not comfortable in its action and had made a significant breathing noise. HEADINGLEY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of HEADINGLEY after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being permitted to race again, HEADINGLEY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of FISHKING EXCELLENT, Apprentice K C Leung explained he had been instructed if possible to ride his mount in a forward position and find the fence. He said FISHKING EXCELLENT began only fairly and did not show natural speed. He said he therefore rode FISHKING EXCELLENT vigorously in the early stages in an attempt to cross to the rail in the lead. He said HEADINGLEY which was racing to his inside appeared to be travelling keenly. He said near the 1200 Metres he looked to his inside to see if there was an opportunity for him to shift to the rail behind HEADINGLEY, however, as another runner was already positioned there, he was unable to do so. He said he continued to ride FISHKING EXCELLENT along after entering the Back Straight. He said in his opinion he made too much use of his mount and it was for this reason FISHKING EXCELLENT performed poorly. FISHKING EXCELLENT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FISHKING EXCELLENT after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FISHKING EXCELLENT was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, FISHKING EXCELLENT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DECAGONAL was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DECAGONAL after the race did not show any significant findings. TRAVEL LEADER and OCTAGONAL CANYON were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported KINGSTON TEMPLE had sustained a cut to the inside of the left hind heel.

Race: 5 (167)JACKSON HANDICAPClass 41650 m
On jumping, MYTHIC STEED was taken across behind runners. At the 800 Metres, ELECTRONIC MASTER got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of KINGSTON WINNER. At the 250 Metres, SUPER FANTASY, which was commencing to give ground after travelling wide and without cover for the majority of the race, was carried wider by O'REILLY MAGIC which for some distance had been experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running and at this time was shifted to the outside of GOLDEN TREASURE. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 100 Metres, ELECTRONIC MASTER was steadied when unable to obtain clear running. Close to the line, KINGSTON WINNER was steadied when tightened for room between BATURO and GOLDEN TREASURE which drifted in. Because of this, KINGSTON WINNER was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Y T Cheng (KEY WINNER) explained after the 200 Metres ROCKET AND GOLD got its head on the side and commenced to shift out on his inside. He said when ROCKET AND GOLD shifted ground, he stopped riding his mount out with the whip and continued to ride along hands and heels to ensure it remained balanced. He said when ROCKET AND GOLD straightened, he then recommenced riding his mount out with the whip. KINGSTON WINNER and SUPER FANTASY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KINGSTON WINNER and SUPER FANTASY after the race did not show any significant findings. NEW CHAPTER and O’REILLY MAGIC were sent for sampling.

Race: 6 (168)QUEEN'S ROAD CENTRAL HANDICAPClass 31650 m
Whilst in the holding stalls, CONGRATULATION had its right hind plate refitted. CONGRATULATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. On jumping, SUPER FIGHTER from a wide gate was taken back. At the 400 Metres, HAPPY MASTER was steadied away from the heels of SOUNDS FANTASTIC when held up and unable to improve. Shortly after straightening, CHINA WIN got its head on the side, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of SOUNDS FANTASTIC which was carried slightly wider by ELFHELM. On straightening, BULLISH WIN got its head on the side and shifted in momentarily. For a considerable distance after the 200 Metres, CHATER SILK had difficulty obtaining clear running. For the majority of the Home Straight, NILOMETER was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Because of this, NILOMETER was not properly tested. For the major part of the race, CHINA WIN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M Du Plessis (WHATABOB) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position with cover if possible. He said accordingly he allowed WHATABOB to go forward in the early stages and gradually crossed to the lead. He said after crossing to the fence at the 1200 Metres he then endeavoured to steady WHATABOB to allow CONGRATULATION to cross and provide him with cover. He said when he did this WHATABOB commenced to pull and proved very difficult for him to settle. He said CONGRATULATION crossed to the rail near the 1000 Metres and immediately commenced to steady the tempo. He said because of this WHATABOB which was continuing to prove difficult to settle raced close to CONGRATULATION’s heels and he therefore shifted his mount to a two wide position. He said when he did this CONGRATULATION quickened the tempo of the race slightly and WHATABOB then relaxed. CONGRATULATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CONGRATULATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, CONGRATULATION will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DORDENMA and MASTER GUNNER were sent for sampling.

Race: 7 (169)THE WAYFOONG CENTENARY BOWL (HANDICAP)Class 31000 m
After being boxed, LOLLIPOP became fractious and endeavoured to break through underneath the front gates of its stall. LOLLIPOP was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had sustained cuts to the left side of the neck and as such in his opinion was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of LOLLIPOP. Before being allowed to race again, LOLLIPOP will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NATIVE KID was slow to begin and was then bumped by HONGKONG SUPERSTAR which shifted in. KUNG FU was slow into stride. On jumping, MAGIC CHARIOT was bumped by JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE which began awkwardly and shifted in. CHATER POWER began awkwardly. At the 500 Metres, ADAIKALI shifted out and bumped TOWKAY FLYER and then shifted in and bumped KUNG FU. After the 200 Metres, JOLLY GOOD FORTUNE was momentarily steadied and shifted to the inside of TOWKAY FLYER to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, TOWKAY FLYER travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. ADAIKALI and TOWKAY FLYER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ADAIKALI and TOWKAY FLYER after the race did not show any significant findings. KUNG FU, HONGKONG SUPERSTAR and CLASSIC NAVIGATOR were sent for sampling.

Race: 8 (170)BANK STREET HANDICAPClass 31650 m
On jumping, KENOBE was taken across behind runners from a wide gate. VISIONARIO began awkwardly. PRIME TARGET, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and lost ground. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, PRIME TARGET became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room between WARM EMBRACES and LHOJONG which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. Near the 1000 Metres, when being steadied away from the heels of VISIONARIO, PRIME TARGET got its head on the side and hung in. PRIME TARGET was then shifted out and as a consequence LHOJONG was checked to avoid its heels. Some inconvenience was caused to KENOBE which was following and proving difficult to settle. At the 200 Metres, WARM EMBRACES was momentarily crowded for room between PRIME TARGET and STAR OF FAME which was carried wider by ENCORE WIN which in turn was carried out by KOWLOON FIT. 2. Adjourned Inquiries – 16 November 2008 Sha Tin Racemeeting
a. Race 5 (156)

The Stewards tonight afforded Mr A S Cruz, trainer of HAPPY ALL AROUND, an opportunity of explaining the riding instructions for the horse. He explained because of the short run to the first turn from the 2000 Metre starting point and that HAPPY ALL AROUND had drawn barrier 10, he instructed K L Chui, the rider, to ride the horse in a midfield position. He said in his opinion too much use would have been required to be made of HAPPY ALL AROUND to cross and race in a forward position. He said he was concerned if the horse went forward, it would be left racing wide and without cover. He did say had HAPPY ALL AROUND drawn more favourably, the intention would have been to have it ridden in a more forward position as is usual.

b. Race 9 (160)

The Stewards tonight afforded Mr A S Cruz, trainer of CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN, an opportunity of explaining the riding instructions issued to S K Sit. Mr Cruz said whilst CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN had not been beaten big margins when racing in a forward position over the course and distance, he had nonetheless been somewhat disappointed with the performances of CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN at Sha Tin. He said prior to the racemeeting he had discussed the manner in which CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN should be ridden with the owner who requested the riding tactics on the horse be varied and have it ridden in a midfield position in the hope that the horse would close the race off. Mr Cruz said he instructed S K Sit accordingly. Mr Cruz said he had reviewed the performance of CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN and he was again somewhat disappointed with the horse’s performance. He said it is now his intention to return CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN to Happy Valley if possible and to have the horse ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. He said CALIFORNIAMOUNTAIN’s best form has been at Happy Valley when ridden in a forward position.
