The Hong Kong Jockey Club appoints new Executive
Director, Membership Services

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announces the
appointment of Mr Billy Chen as Executive Director, Membership Services
(Designate). Mr Chen takes over from Mr Davie Auyeung after a long
and distinguished career with the Club.
Mr Billy Chen is currently Vice President
Operations of the prestigious Raffles International Hotels and Resorts
based in Singapore. The Raffles Group covers a global portfolio
including properties in Europe, United States, South East Asia and
Australia. As Vice President Operations, Mr Chen is responsible
for the operational aspect of all hotels within the Group. Prior
to joining Raffles International, Mr Chen worked for 13 years with
the Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts. He started his career with the
Group in Singapore and subsequently worked in Bangkok. He was General
Manager of their flagship hotels in Penang and Beijing.
Mr Lawrence T. Wong, Chief Executive of
the HKJC commented: "Billy is selected after a global search
of hospitality candidates. Billy will no doubt carry on with the
excellent initiatives established by Davie Auyeung, the present
Executive Director, but I hope our membership will be equally delighted
with the new momentum brought about by Billy's appointment."
Mr Chen has lived and worked in many parts
of Asia and the United States. In addition to English, Mandarin
and Thai, he also speaks Cantonese and many other dialects fluently.
Mr Chen has a degree in Hospitality Management from the Brigham
Young University in Hawaii. He is married with a teenage daughter.
He will take up his new appointment on 2 April 2001.
